Run a Skill

Run a published Skill with your own Anthropic API key and get its files on your computer.

Sign in with grounds login. See Sign in with the CLI.
Export your Anthropic API key: export ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=<your key>. This is the only way to give Grounds your key. There is no flag for it, so it stays out of your shell history.
Run the Skill: grounds run alice/seo-audit --input ./site.md.

Results are untrusted data: review them before acting on them.

Options

alice/seo-audit@1.2.0 runs that version. Without @<version>, Grounds runs the latest published version.
--input <file> gives the Skill a file to work on. Repeat it for more files, up to 10 files and 10 MB in total. The Skill sees each file by its file name, so two files cannot share a name.
--instruction "<text>" gives the Skill extra text.
--output <folder> changes where results are saved. Default: ./grounds-results.

Your results

Results are saved in grounds-results/<execution-id>/. Each Execution gets its own folder. Grounds never writes outside it. Running grounds result again for the same Execution overwrites the files in that folder and nothing else.

Results are untrusted data. They come from a Skill you did not write. Review them before you open, run or act on them.

Close the terminal or press Ctrl-C

Ctrl-C stops grounds run waiting. It does not stop the Execution. Get the result later:

grounds result <execution-id>

This saves the files again without running the Skill again. If the Execution is still running, grounds result says so. Try again in a moment.

If something fails

Nothing is charged by Grounds in this release.

The Skill failed (a Skill Failure): the Skill or its inputs caused it. The message says which.

Ran past the 10-minute maximum: try again with less input, or tell the Author.
Anthropic refused or could not complete the request: check that your ANTHROPIC_API_KEY is valid and has credit, then try again.
Finished without producing any files: try again, or tell the Author.
Produced files over 25 MB: tell the Author. Nothing is returned.

Grounds failed to run it (an Infrastructure Failure): this is Grounds' fault, not the Skill's or yours. Run it again.

What Grounds uses and returns

Grounds uses your key for that one Execution and does not store it. The CLI does not save your key to disk or print it. You get the Skill's output files only. Grounds never shows you the Skill's own files, prompts or logs.
